The Little Free Library, a few blocks from the Inns, was dedicated by the mayor of Friday Harbor. It was built by Louise and John Dustrude, with some help from their kids Eric and Tim and their spouses Jan and Shannon. It was installed Sunday, July 6th.
For those of you that are unfamiliar with the Little Free Library concept, it’s a “take a book, return a book” gathering place where neighbors share their favorite literature and stories. In its most basic form, a Little Free Library is a box full of books where anyone may stop by and pick up a book (or two) and bring back another book to share.
Friday Harbor’s Free Library is number 14,801 in the world – the first one having been launched in Wisconsin in 2009.
The Little Free Library is located off the Nichols Street sidewalk on the patio of The Barking Bird, just down the street from The Tucker House Inn.
