We are pleased to welcome Wenda Shinall to the Harrison House Suites and Tucker House Inn as our summer innkeeper. Wenda has lived on the island for 10 years and has worked most recently as a Breakfast cook at the Lime Kiln Café in Roche Harbor. In addition to her cooking abilities, she comes from a family of blueberry farmers. She has a passion and knowledge of gardening and made quick work of readying our chef’s garden, hanging baskets and flower planters for the growing season.
She shared with me her family’s cookbook that her Mom made for her. It is a black 3 ring binder with glassine sheets protecting typed family recipes. Her first weekend at the Inns she dug into this book and made a rhubarb strawberry coffee cake using the first rhubarb of the season. It received lots of raves from guests. We can’t wait to try more of her family’s recipes including those with blueberries.
