Home ->About Us-> Meet the Innkeepers
The Tucker House and the Harrison House is the culmination of our dream come true. Having spent years traveling the world as guests at many bed and breakfasts and country inns in a variety of settings, the memories of our visit were not only influenced by the amenities that each offered, but by the hospitality of our innkeepers. Throughout our travels, we have taken copious notes on every aspect of our stay including the furnishings, the food, and the little things that each offered. We have tried to incorporate and build upon many of the wonderful ideas from fellow innkeepers around the world. If you have any additional ideas, we would love to hear about them.
Before moving to the Islands, Dave worked as a software development engineer and Anna Maria as a partner in a non-profit public broadcasting company. We worked and played hard in order to squeeze in all of our hobbies and interests.
We are both certified scuba instructors and look forward to exploring some of the best cold water diving in the world justs steps from our front door. So if you do not see us around the inn, we are probably underwater discovering the beauty of the waters around the island -- whether its photographing interesting anemone, giant Pacific octopus or tiger eels, exploring old ship wrecks, or watching the splendor of our 3 pods of resident orca whales above the water. We also enjoy many other outdoor activities including golfing, hiking, gardening and downhill skiing. Anna Maria is a classically trained flutist so don't be surprised if you hear music wafting from the upper level of the cottage. Since moving to the Islands, Dave has taken up flying. He puts his hobby to good use year round but particularly during the summer season. He flies off once or twice a week selecting the freshest seasonal fruit from neighboring farms.
What drew us to the life as innkeepers was our love of entertaining, cooking, and sharing fine cooked meals and the fruits of our garden with family and friends. Please check out our specials page and ask about our special dinners. We would be honored to prepare a multi-course meal for a special occasion or pack a to-go picnic for a day trip.
We hope that your visit to this magnificent island will help you escape and forget your busy and stressful life. The San Juan islands offer a range of activities offering challenges suited to the active adventure traveler to repose for those who want to just unwind and meander through a lavender field or stroll throughout town. We will be happy to guide you to the activities that fit your mood and temperament. We will also be happy to direct you to family-friendly and pet-friendly activities.
When you decide to stay with us, we will do everything we can to make your vacation memorable no matter what it has in store - whether its kayaking through the straits and picnicking on a nearby island, taking in a spa day or having a private masseuse come to your suite, playing 18 on the local course, day tripping to Orcas, or relaxing on one of our many decks. After you arrive, we will do our best to help you get yourself on island standard time as quickly as possible. We want you to consider the Harrison House Suites your home away from home.
If this is your first trip to the San Juan islands, we hope that you will feel the same way we did and that you will be drawn to come back and visit us year and after year. Those of you who have already visited the islands, know what I am referring to.
Happy vacationing and we look forward to meeting and hosting you.
Your innkeepers,
Anna Maria (am) and Dave |
