DIY Halloween Tips From Friday Harbor B&B
The Friday Harbor Fire Department Thrift House has a whole rack of Halloween costumes out. Even better, they have lots of colorful garments and linens for those who like to stretch their imagination and create something unique, avoiding the toxic dyes and petroleum-based products of ready-made costumes.
If you’re going for a scary look, you can create your own face paints and avoid the toxic chemicals; use all natural or organic ingredients. Mix 1 teaspoon of cornstarch with 1/2 teaspoon of water in a small bowl. Mix well. Add 1/2 teaspoon of baby diaper rash cream and 1 or 2 drops of food coloring and stir well until creamy. Adjust the ingredients amounts to desired consistency and color. Simple, huh?
Consider alternative choices for giveaway treats too: bubbles, stickers, pretty polished stones, cool seashells, temporary tattoos, friendship bracelets, Fair Trade chocolate, sustainable chewing gum, fruit juice boxes, veggie chips, granola bars, barrettes or hair things, bells, charms, coins, crayons or colored pencils, glass rings or beads, mini soaps, toothpaste, whistles, spinning tops.
Send us your favorite Halloween costume photos, pets too – we’d love to share them with our guests! BTW: Can you guess the year of these home-made costumes???
