Coal Terminal Proponent Pays 1.6 Million Penalty
RE Sources for Sustainable Communities reports that earlier this week, SSA Marine agreed to pay $1.6 million in penalties as a result of RE Sources’ Clean Water Act lawsuit. It is one of the nation’s largest penalties in history under the dredge and fill provisions of the Clean Water Act. (SSA Marine is the company that has proposed to build the coal terminal at Cherry Point near Bellingham, WA.) This settlement clearly establishes that SSA has broken the law, and cannot be trusted.
