San Juan Islands Lodging – Friday Harbor – Tucker House

A vacation memory from Colleen & Arlene from Manitoba and Sydney, Canada. They stayed with us last spring in the Goose in the Pond Cottage. They are planning a return visit this March and sent us this picture to share.

Well, the photos are coming in fast and furiously after the request in our last newsletter.

Here are two that came in this evening from one of our guests John, from Mountain View, California. The first is a spectacular majestic bald eagle. I remember John mentioning at breakfast how he was waiting for the perfect shot. His patience really paid off. Thanks for sending these for all of us to share.

The bluffs at American Camp – John’s second contribution.

This weeekend the Tucker House celebrated Valentine’s Day. It was a wonderfully romantic weekend for our guests complete with long stem roses, chocolate truffle soap and daily Valentine’s
in their rooms. Gizmo, one of our four four-legged guests is shown here after inhaling one of our homemade doggie loves. The cookies beside him were for Mom and Dad. Mollie, the Inn’s yellow retriever welcomes all of her friends with a personalized card. Some of our guests were lucky enough to get a table at Coho for Saturday night where they were wined and dined. The end of the 6 course meal culminated with the Seven Deadly Sins for Two – a combination of dark and white chocolate treats!

Another belated photo from our renovations. This is one of the bedrooms in Victoria’s Flower Garden in the original 1898 Tucker House. This bed, a recent addition to the suite, is a period piece appropriate to the house. We tried to strike a balance between functionality, modern day comfort and historical accuracy. The suite has lots of windows and high seasons and a lovely sun room off the kitchen overlooking a beautiful specimen weeping willow.

We have been a bit remiss in getting the new pictures up of some of our renovations. Thank you to our new innkeeper, Shay, who has been running around snapping pictures so that we can share. This is the new kitchen in Victoria’s Flower Garden at the lower Tucker House. It is a 2 bedroom 2 bath suite with living room, kitchen and sun room. Here is a photo of the kitchen. This house has lots of stories as to what was where. From what we have learned, there was evidence of three different kitchens. The original kitchen is now our guest laundry – still with the original cabinets. Our new kitchen is on the site where another kitchen was.

We have just finished a renovation of our Log Cabin Cottage. It has been a 2 year project and we are so pleased with the results. From what we have learned from some of our guests who knew the Tucker’s, the Log Cabin was at one point Grandpa’s work shop. We wanted to keep the feel of the old but introduce some modern rustic elegance. Here is a photo of the main room.
